It rewards documentaries and video clips promoting a positive image of Africa
You are invited to take part in the 4th Harambee International Award titled “Communicating Africa”.
The competition organized by Harambee Africa International Organisation, will reward TV documentaries by professionals and video clips prepared by students (aged 25 years and under) and distributed over the internet.
The entries submitted should deal with ethnic, religious, social, economic, and cultural issues in Africa.
The Award aims at generating more attention and awareness about Africa, with the hope of overcoming and fighting the silence about the continent. This silence continuously gives the impression that Africa does not exist, has no say and plays a marginal role in the international community.
The Award also aims at fighting stereotypes about Africa as a continent dominated by wars, social problems, health emergencies and natural disasters.
This biased view conceals or disregards many good things happening every day in Africa including the continent’s resources and potentialities.
Special attention will be given to documentaries and video clips demonstrating the importance of education and training as key elements in achieving personal well-being and the peaceful development of African societies.
The documentaries must have been broadcasted between 1st January 2009 and 31st August 2010. The best documentary will win 5,000,00 Euros.
The video clips from students aged 25 and under, must have been broadcasted between 1st January 2009 and 31st August 2010. The best video-clip will win 2,500 Euros, the second will win 1,500 Euros and the third will win 1,000 Euros.
People from all parts of the world can participate in the competition.
The documentaries must be no longer than 60 minutes while video-clips must be no longer than five minutes.

The deadline for submitting documentaries and video clips is 15th September 2010.
