The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has finally cleared the South African athlete Caster Semenya, saying that she can now compete.
The process initiated in 2009 in the case of Semenya has now been completed, IAAF said, adding that they have accepted the conclusion of a panel of medical experts that Semenya can compete with immediate effect.
The medical details of the case remain confidential and the IAAF said they will make no further comment on the matter.
IAAF requested gender tests after Semenya won a gold medal at the World Championships in Berlin in August 2009.
The Athletics South Africa (ASA) has said they will implement with immediate effect IAAF’s decision to allow Semenya to resume competitive athletics.
