President of the Republic of Italy Giorgio Napolitano is a knowledgeable person who has the interest of Africa at heart, Ghana’s new Ambassador to Italy Her Excellency Evelyn Anita Stokes-Hayford has said.

Speaking shortly after presenting her Credentials to President Napolitano, Ambassador Stokes-Hayford said she assured him of Ghana’s continuous co-operation with Italy and her desire to continue the good work of her predecessors. She was accompanied by Ms. Georgina Bridget Adzo Djameh (Minister, Head of Chancery), Mr. Charles Baah (Minister, Consular Affairs) and Mr. Aikins Abrokwa (First Secretary, Trade & Investment) – all from the Ghana Embassy in Rome.

Later at her residence, the new Ambassador was treated to a cocktail party in the company of some Ghanaians living in Italy, diplomats and dignitaries.

Cardinal Appiah Turkson, President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace also attended the ceremony.

Ambassador Stokes-Hayford thanked all present and said she has come to Italy as the mother of all Ghanaians in the country. “My doors are open to all day and night. Italy and Ghana have a long standing relation and I pledge to continue that relation and improve upon it,” she said.

The Ambassador spent most of the time conversing with her guests.
