Joseph Osas Omusi and Blessing C. Ighodaro hosted a special name giving ceremony for their baby in Genova on 8th May.

The parents, who belong to the Bini ethnic group in Nigeria, held a traditional ceremony which was attended by so many friends and relatives.

Sliced coco-nut, kola-nuts, honey and a bottle of hot-drink were placed on the table. The opening prayers were said by Mr. Asemota as the eldest Bini man present on the occasion. He prayed God to guard the new born baby so that she could grow old enough to also give names to her own children.

During the prayer that is usually associated with the breaking of kola-nuts, Dr. Joseph Osaigbovo who was authorized by Mr. Asemota to perform the rites, informed those present that the importance most Africans attach to male-children is no longer relevant.

He stressed that the last two Presidents of the US including President Obama have female children only.

Dr. Osaigbovo asked God to bless the parents of the child so that they can give her a good training.

The father of the child named her Praise Osayuwamen, the name she’ll use throughout her life.  After the naming ceremony, the guests were treated to food and drinks at the family’s house.
