"We’re pleased to have a variety of contestants of all shapes and sizes"
The finalists for the Miss African Spirit beauty pageant have been announced.
The beauty queens to fight for the crown are: Evania Justino (Angola), Fares Ntutumu Micue (Equatorial Guinea), Hayes Korang and Maybel Banienuba (Ghana), Lerato Motebang (Lesotho), Debbie Endonyan, Oluwatosin Adefila, Oyindamola Asekun and Elizabeth Adetula (Nigeria), Tamel Mei (Sierra Leone), Tamsyn Matthew and Nicole Musson (South Africa), Rahima Ahmed (Tanzania), Clare Abuneri and Caroline Namugayi (Uganda), Makaya Chibuye (Zambia), Nandiipha Moyo, Tafadzwa Jambwa, Gumisai Makombe, Quincelee Nyoni and Cynthia Mtombeni (Zimbabwe).
The finals will take place on 25th June in Milton Keynes.
The reason why Miss African Spirit Beauty Pageant is very popular and different from all other pageants is that there are no size, height or weight restrictions on the part of the contestants. There is also no swimwear round.
Miss African Spirit has proved that indeed size does not matter. “What does matter is the ‘African Spirit’... building a sense of community, being charitable and giving back to the communities in which we live, as well as those we originate from,” the organisers say.
The event will feature performances from Miss African Spirit’s recent “Rising Stars” Talent Contest, which was held on 3rd April at the Ramada Encore. The winner of the talent contest, the nine year old Lydia Singer from Woburn will perform together with last year’s 2nd Princess, and singer-songwriter Katongo Temba. Pageant Director Michelle Adams says: “We’re pleased to have a variety of contestants of all shapes and sizes representing their countries this year. The only prerequisites to take part are the age of the contestant and whether or not they have African heritage – that is, if they were born in Africa, their parents or grandparents were born in Africa.”
Miss African Spirit pageant is an annual event in Milton Keynes aimed at celebrating African cultures, beauty and diversity. For further information, please log on to www.missafricanspirit.co.uk.
