Democratic Party backs citizenship law reform - The Africa News

Democratic Party has backed Integration Minister Andrea Riccardi’s call for law granting citizenship to children born in Italy of immigrant parents.

Immigrants, their children, and all Italians can no longer accept an unjust law that discriminates against hundreds of thousands of children born in the country, Khalid Chaouki, head of the party’s Nuovi Italiani said.

Such children can’t call themselves citizens of Italy, their country of birth, simply because they have been born of immigrant parents, Mr. Chaouki said.

The Democratic Party will continue the fight to make citizenship reform one of the key issues in the process of reforming Italy to make it effectively an inclusive and democratic country, he said.
