All applications for regularisation of illegal domestic workers in Rome may be cleared before summer, Immigrations Office at the Prefecture has confirmed.
Out of 32,000 applications submitted in Rome, 19,000 appointments have been fixed for employers and workers to undersign the residency contract while 7,000 have already applied for the Permit of Stay for work.
There are about 30 offices throughout Rome being used to receive the workers and employers who have to undersign the contract.
Some 1,600 employers have been asked to submit more documents in support of their applications. If they fail to do so, their applications will be rejected. There are also some employers who have been summoned by failed to turn up. The first notification is usually sent by SMS or email, but if the employer fails to turn up, then the Immigrations Office sends a registered mail. If the employer fails to turn up after receiving this letter, the application is archived. At this stage it becomes very risky for the employer because he/she already declared in the application form to be an employer of an irregular worker.
It is possible to check online in case one has already been summoned to the Immigrations Office in Rome. Please log on to the website of the Immigrations Office at the Prefecture and type in the application’s code and the employer’s date of birth, and click on “seleziona” (Select).
Those who submitted their applications after 20th September 2009 are advised not to contact the immigrations office seeking information about their applications because only those submitted before the above date have been examined.
From this week, those who would like to receive information about their applications for regularisation can personally go to the Immigrations Office in Rome in via Ostiense 131/L, on Tuesday and Thursday, from 14:30 to 16:30.
