The Italian government could obtain money to finance immigration policies by granting amnesty (sanatoria) to irregular immigrant workers, Democratic Party has said.
In a Parliamentary question to Home Affairs Minister Anna Maria Cancellieri, the Democratic Party MPs led by Livia Turco, MP, head of the party’s Immigration Forum sought to know what action the government would take regarding the controversial tax on Permits of Stay.
They asked the government to reveal what it planned to do to ensure that the newly introduced tax on the permits doesn’t seriously affect the income of immigrant workers who already contribute to the State coffers through their work.
The Democratic Party MPs suggested to the government to look for money to finance immigration policies from other sources such as through regularization of irregular immigrant workers.
Home Affairs Minister Anna Maria Cancellieri will answer the MPs tomorrow.
