Maroni against reducing time for granting citizenship

Home Affairs Minister Roberto Maroni is absolutely against the proposal to reduce from 10 to five years the residence requirement for Italian citizenship.

According to a Bill submitted by Andrea Sarubbi (Democratic Party) and Fabio Granata (the ruling People of Freedom Party - PDL), children born in Italy would become Italians if either the mother or the father has been a legal resident in the country for at least five years.

Contributing to a motion on immigration at the Senate, Mr. Maroni praised the current immigration law saying it has been effective in fighting irregular immigration.

Within a short time the Government has managed to drastically reduce the number of irregular immigrants to only 15,000. He, however, didn’t say how many irregular immigrants were in the country previously.

He also defended Italy’s agreement with Libya which allows Italian authorities to intercept would be irregular immigrants in the international waters and send them back to Libya. Mr. Maroni said that everything they’ve done is in accordance with the national and international laws.

Mr. Maroni’s remarks criticized by Senator Gianpiero D'Alia, head of UDC’s Senators who said that he didn’t expect the minister to come to the Senate and talk about arrival of irregular immigrants. He said expected Mr. Maroni to talk about concrete measures being taken to promote integration of immigrants.

“I’m referring to actions aimed at regularising immigrants doing undeclared work, to punish entrepreneurs who exploit irregular immigrants,” Senator D'Alia said.

He also sought to know what was being done to receive about 300,000 new immigrants every year, who are needed to take up jobs in the country. Mr. D'Alia said these are some of the necessary measures for improving and changing the country’s immigration policy which so far has proved to be a failure.

    Mr,Maroni,
Aren't you tired of thinking what discriminating laws you will make everyday against immigrants? it seems that you have given much of your time thinking of what to do to hate you more... why don't you see first if you have family or business problem! Put the immigrants at the last line, your concern might probably be appreciated if it is for good motivation, but this way like what you're presently doing, people tend to curse you. Immigrants know the rights they have following
the ethics of Constitution, but before them, you must be the first one to abide as you are a government leader.Lastly, there's a saying "
Respect others if you want yourself be respected. Immigrants are religious, you know what they pray? they pray you'll be oust from your post and they promise a celebration.

The vast majority of immigrants and your fellow europeans see mr Maroni or whatever you may call yourself as an ignorant of the 21st century modern civilization.
Your employer, "mr berlusconi" is taking you and your fellow italians as a real fool, using his political office as a tool to launch irrelevant, and racist campaign againts the immigrant community in italy,as his propaganda strategy to hold onto power.
italy has refused to carry out the necessary political, economic, social and cultural reform that would help the country move forward, and place it in a competitive plateform in a global scale, instead you carry out your racist policy against innocent immigrants here in italy.
Your political, economic, and social set back in Europe is as a result of your poor reasoning techniques, which has led the country to it's total stagnation.
The Berlusconi government has decided to use immigration issue as a campaign tool, ignoring the fact that immigrants contribute tremendousl...
