ACLI: Immigrants a blessing for Italy

It is not right to link immigration to crime, Mr. Andrea Olivero, President of ACLI has said. “Most foreigners in Italy are honest workers, reliable and indispensable for our production and social system,” he said.
In February Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said that a reduction in the number of foreigners means fewer people to fill the ranks of organized crime.
Mr. Olivero said they would like to show a different face of immigrants. “Immigrants are neither a disgrace, nor only necessary for our firms, farms, for our houses. Immigrants are a big resource for humanity’s journey as Pope Benedict XVI told us in a message for the World Migration Day some years ago,” he said.
Our duty, Mr. Olivero said, is to make Italians and politicians aware of the importance of immigrants, and work for integration of immigrants and their families beginning with recognition of fundamental rights.
